Portland Queer Centered
Quilting Bee —
is a potentially subversive gathering space for queer people to engage in culture building within the domestic sphere. Together, we queer the tradition of the quilting bee while embracing it as a useful form of embodied image making. The quilt becomes a tangible metaphor for our shared experiences as it passes from hand to hand.
We ask: How do we utilize “women’s work” like sewing and embroidery outside of patriarchy? What is the status of queer love for our generation? How do we stitch together new queer families?
